Offered through the excellent language school – the Humboldt Institut, this Leaving Cert Prep Course in Schmallenberg provides a comprehensive program for fifth-year students. This intensive course helps prepare students for their written and oral German LC exams with 30 German classes per week as well as two private lessons with an attentive tutor. The core 30 lessons are taught by fully qualified tutors who are dedicated to improving your overall fluency, comprehension and expression through interactive group work and stimulating lesson plans.
The two weekly private German lessons, take place with a supportive teacher who will pay attention to your individual needs and help you achieve your learning goals. These will also focus on the Leaving Certificate German syllabus to allow you to feel confident ahead of sitting your written and oral Leaving Certificate exams.
Students stay at the Bad Fredeburg Academy which is in the picturesque centre of the town and classes take place at the local school, just a few minutes from the academy.
Schmallenberg is especially popular for its flexible system of courses, with weekly arrival and departure.
The Bad Fredeburg Academy has an auditorium with a stage for plays and parties, a large lawn for outdoor activities, a sports hall, a campfire and barbecue area so students have plenty to occupy their free time. There are also weekly excursions to attractive destinations in the surrounding area.

Students live in twin and a few multiple occupancy rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. We carefully choose the students who will share a room with each other, taking care to match roommates who have a comparable German language level and are of similar age, yet speak different native languages. This way we encourage them to speak and practice German with each other outside of the classroom. Boys and girls are housed separately.
The friendly atmosphere of the building will help the students to soon feel at home in the new environment. The students have Wi-Fi access at the school.
Our students receive three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) as well as a snack daily.
Laundry service is offered to all students free of charge once a week for their personal laundry. Bed linen and towels will be provided and changed regularly.
The closest airport is Frankfurt.
No flights are not included in the price. You will need to arrange your own flights, although we are happy to advise which flight to book.
Transfer between the airport and your school can be arranged. The prices can be found on the dates & prices page.
All meals are included in the price. You will, however, need money for socialising and shopping during your time away.
The school does not permit friends or even students of the same nationality to share rooms. Staying with a student who you didn’t know before your trip is a great way to widen your circle of friends while getting the chance to practice your language skills with new people.
Having a foundation of conversational German is beneficial to students going on any of our language courses but even less advanced students will see their fluency flourish in a short space of time during this immersive experience.
