Tips on how to de-stress over your Christmas Holidays
The Christmas tree and lights are up and it will soon be the end of term and time to kick back and relax over the school holidays. Here are some tips to help make sure you successfully de-stress and make the most of this downtime before school starts again in January.
- Do your shopping online
Shops and shopping malls will be busy so opt for online shopping which is the easier, warmer and less stressful option. When ordering Christmas gifts, remember to check delivery times to ensure your items will arrive in time.
- Watch Christmas movies
Watch some classic Christmas movies to de-stress, or choose some comedies to get you laughing and producing those stress-reducing hormones. Try Home Alone, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Elf and Love Actually for some festive fun.
- Get plenty of sleep
Good sleep habits keep the stress levels down. Sleep patterns can tend to be all over the place when out of the school routine, however, and particularly so during the festive season. It’s therefore, important to still get plenty of sleep during the holidays so that you don’t return to school in January even more tired than you were in December!
- Get some studying done
Granted, studying might not be a typical way to de-stress but think how much better you feel once you have done some. Just a few hours now and again during the holidays can make a big difference and help take the pressure off once you return to school.
- Have some fun
With a few hours of studying under your belt, there will be plenty of time to have some fun. Meet up with friends for coffee and partake in fun activities. Whatever your idea of fun is, the Christmas holidays are the best time to partake.
- And relax
To truly de-stress, spend time at home doing some quiet relaxing activities such as reading a book, having a relaxing bath or even spending a day watching TV. There’s nothing wrong with having a little bit of escapism and ‘me-time’ doing nothing after a busy term at school.
At the end of the day, Christmas is all about having fun and taking time out of our busy working lives and our studies to spend some quality time with loved ones.
