Studying a foreign language in its native country has many benefits for students who are looking to improve their language skills in a short amount of time. A study abroad experience in France helps students improve their French language skills and provides an invaluable opportunity for students to experience the local culture and way of life.

France is a popular destination for Irish students looking for a study abroad experience during their TY or school holidays. At Stein Study, we have developed a top quality range of study abroad programmes for Irish students wanting to study French in France. We work with well established and respected language schools, located in carefully selected destinations across France.

Our destinations in France include sunny beach towns (Cannes and Antibes), vibrant and culture-rich towns and cities (Rouen and La Rochelle) and rural quiet towns in the pretty French countryside (Loches).

The courses

There are 4-course choices for study abroad students wanting to study French in France. All courses include excursions and free time that exposes students to valuable opportunities to practice their French language ability with the locals.

1. Junior Summer Course (Antibes or Cannes) 

This course is for 13 to 17-year-olds wanting a fun summer holiday study abroad experience. It includes 20 lessons per week taught in an interactive and engaging environment. Students will learn French grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and expression to help develop overall fluency.

2. TY Intensive Course (La Rochelle)

The TY Intensive Courses are a great way to improve French language skills in a short period of time. There are 30 language classes per week in small groups of 10-12 pupils.Students learn alongside other international students and through interactive group work.

3. Leaving Cert Prep Courses (Rouen)

This course has been carefully formulated for Stein Study, to help Irish students with their forthcoming LC exams. There are 15 hours of general French lessons per week and 10 hours of additional French classes where students go through past LC papers and work on oral comprehension.

4. Transition Year Secondary School Programme (Rouen, La Rochelle or Loches)

In La Rochelle and Rouen, students start with a 2 week Intensive French Course at the language school and then attend a local secondary school for the remainder of the programme (up to 1 academic year) with local French students. In Loches, students attend a boarding school for the full course and study French only with other international students.
