If you’re studying abroad this winter, your packing list will be very different to the usual summer study abroad requirements. Especially so if your course includes the opportunity to ski or snowboard, as with the Stein Study German and Ski course in Lindenberg, Germany.

Whether you’re an expert skier and snowboarding fanatic, or brand new to the slopes, having the right gear is essential to make sure you’re warm and comfortable during your winter sport adventures.

Here’s a packing list of items you’ll need specifically for a winter study abroad trip on the slopes.

 Ski and snowboarding clothing

  • Thermal bottoms and tops as an underlayer
  • Waterproof, breathable jacket and  trousers or overalls
  • Waterproof ski gloves
  • A warm scarf
  • Ski socks
  • A beanie hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Goggles
  • Headband or earmuffs
  • A face mask

Additional items

  • A small backpack to carry water and snacks
  • Sunscreen lotion and lip balm
  • Pocket tissue packs

After skiing

After a busy afternoon or Saturday day out on the slopes, you’ll want to return to your accommodation and change into clothes that are super comfortable and warm so so make sure you pack these essentials.

  • T-shirts
  • Jeans
  • Sweaters
  • Tracksuit
  • Slippers

Ski equipment

Skiing and snowboarding equipment (including boots and helmet) is included in our German and Ski course so there is no need to bring your own.

Some useful travel tips

  • Bulky ski wear will take up a lot of space in your suitcase so it is a good idea to wear your ski jacket to travel in to save space.
  • Pack small items like underwear and socks into shoes and boots to save space.
  • Don’t pack unnecessary valuables.
  • Weigh your suitcase or travel bag before you leave home to ensure you’re not over the weight restriction which could incur additional costs.
